Owing to distinctions in structure and functionality, the internal construction of salt and pepper mills varies, influencing performance preferences and pricing.Chinagama offers a diverse array of grinding mill materials, structures, and operation modes to cater to diverse needs.Materials range from stainless steel, glass, and plastic to wood.Structurally, options include double-headed, conventional designs, while operation modes encompass manual, electric, and crusher variants.The designed products include stainless steel herb grinder, adjustable pepper mill, gravity salt grinder, etc.
The grinding efficacy of salt and pepper mills hinges on internal burrs. Typically, these burrs comprise a set of internal teeth and a set of external teeth. As you rotate the handle, coarse teeth initiate the crushing process, followed by fine teeth gradually reducing the contents to a finer powder consistency. Furthermore, most mills feature an adjustable knob that controls the gap between the burrs, enabling customizable grind coarseness.
Burrs are available in stainless steel, ceramic, and plastic variants, each offering distinct characteristics:
Ceramic Burrs:
Renowned for their high wear resistance and hardness, ceramic burrs are non-porous, rendering them more hygienic. Moreover, ceramic's low thermal conductivity aids in preserving the inherent flavors of spices. While ceramic grinding mechanisms are suitable for various applications, including salt and pepper milling, their efficiency may not match that of stainless steel counterparts.
Carbon Steel Burrs:
High carbon steel contains carbon between 0.61% and 1.50%. This means it is tough enough to grind other hard spices, not just pepper. It is also sharper but more prone to oxidation and corrosion. However, it can be treated to resist corrosion, ensuring longevity and performance in corrosive environments. It is also among the most expensive options.
POM Plastic Burrs:
POM plastic, also known as polyoxymethylene or acetal, is a thermoplastic crystalline polymer with hardness, strength, and rigidity similar to metal. It exhibits good self-lubrication, fatigue resistance, and wear resistance over a wide range of temperatures and humidity levels, making it a substitute for many non-ferrous metals. However, compared to ceramics and stainless steel, it is prone to thermal decomposition at high temperatures and sensitive to acidic environments, and it is relatively costly compared to other plastics.
